Sports Betting 101
If you love sports and you love to gamble, then sports betting may be your thing, in moderation of course. Betting on a team to win a game can add a great level of suspense to the game (depending on the amount you have gambled, this suspense can border on outright anxiety). There are some basic things that you need to know about sports betting before you can really start making smart wagers and watch as your chosen teams fulfill your predictions and win you some money.
Sports Betting 101 - Understanding the Spread
When you bet on sports, either on an actual game or on internet casino, you can choose to make a moneyline bet (where you choose who will win) or you can bet on the spread. The spread is the number that the sportsbook believes a team will win or loose by. It is usually expressed in terms of plus or minus a certain number of points. A spread of +3 means that that team is expected to loose by at least three points. A spread of -3 means that team is expected to win by more than three. The purpose of the spread is simple. If one team is obviously favored to win a game, the sportsbook can offset those odds by offering a spread to level the betting field. By leveling things out a bit, the sportsbook can encourage betting action on both the favorite and the underdog.
Sports Betting 101 - Parlays
One way to boost your potential winnings and to really put your money on the line in sports betting is by using the classic parlay. Parlaying teams means that you are willing to bet on the outcomes of more than one game, and that you are willing to combine those bets for a higher payout if you win. Naturally, it’s more difficult to predict the outcomes of two or three games rather than just picking one game. So it makes sense that the payout amounts go through the roof with a parlay, but the odds of winning plummet as well. But for savvy and lucky bettors, parlays can return several times over the initial wager amount and gives out casino bonus more than what they expected. Rules and payouts for betting parlays often vary from sportsbook to sportsbook, so be sure you find one that allows for the most possible flexibility in betting options.
